HDPE PE300 is a tough, low-friction material with outstanding impact strength, chemical resistance, and low moisture absorption. It is food-compliant, easy to weld, and ideal for industrial, engineering, and food-grade applications. Available cut to size in natural and black.

Key Features and Benefits

  • High impact strength: Resistant to impact and abrasion, making it ideal for demanding applications.
  • Good chemical resistance: Withstands a wide range of chemicals, ensuring durability in harsh environments.
  • Wide temperature range (+80 to -100°C): Performs well in extreme conditions without losing strength or flexibility.
  • Lightweight and weldable: Easy to handle, fabricate, and weld, offering versatility in manufacturing.
  • Very low moisture absorption: Prevents warping and maintains stability in wet or humid conditions.
  • Food-Safe Compliance: Compliant with food safety agency (FSA) standards and European Union (EU) regulations, suitable for food-related applications.

Typical Applications

  • Food Processing: PE300 rod is widely used in food processing for its non-reactive, non-toxic properties, making it suitable for environments where hygiene and easy clening are essential.
  • Automotive: PE300 rod is commonly used in automotive applications, such as interior components and protective parts, due to its durability, low friction, and resistance to wear and tear.
  • Leisure: Ideal for leisure applications, PE300 rod is used in the construction of playground equipment, recreational vehicles, and other outdoor products, thanks to its strength and resistance to the elements.
  • Boat Construction: PE300 rod is perfect for boat construction, providing resistance to saltwater, UV rays, and physical impacts, ensuring the longevity and durability of marine vessels.
  • Medical Applications: In the medical field, PE300 rod is used for equipment and devices due to its excellent chemical resistance, hygienic properties, and safety for sensitive environments.
  • Water Pumps: PE300 rod is ideal for water pump components, offering strength and resistance to wear in high-pressure environments, ensuring long-lasting performance.
  • Landfill Applications: PE300 rod s employed in landfill applications, providing resistance to harsh chemicals and environmental conditions, ensuring reliable performance over extended periods.

Colour Application and Uses

  • Natural PE300 Rod: Offers excellent chemical resistance and impact strength, making it ideal for general engineering, food processing, and industrial applications where durability and performance are critical.
  • Black PE300 Rod: Enhanced with additional UV resistance, making it well-suited for outdoor applications or environments exposed to sunlight, such as boat construction and outdoor tanks, ensuring long-lasting performance and reduced degradation from UV rays.

Specific gravity 0.95

With a specific gravity of 0.95, PE300 is lighter than water, which enhances its buoyancy and makes it a suitable choice for applications where weight reduction is essential. Its lightweight nature is particularly beneficial in industries such as packaging, boat construction, and transport, where ease of handling and reduced energy consumption are important.

One side gloss, one side matte (from 10mm up)

The gloss/matte surface (from 10mm up) may not be ideal for applications requiring uniform texture on both sides.

Manufacturing Process - Extrusion

The PE300 sheets are produced through an extrusion process, where high-density polyethylene (HDPE) is heated and forced through a mold to form sheets of consistent thickness and quality. This process ensures:

  • Uniform material density and thickness
  • Excellent chemical resistance and impact strength
  • High-quality surface finish with smooth, precise edges

The extrusion process results in a durable, versatile material that is well-suited for demanding applications. PE300 sheets maintain their structural integrity in harsh environments, making them ideal for industries such as chemical storage, food processing, water tanks, and industrial applications.

Cut to Size Bespoke Fabrication Services

Our cut to size service allows you to purchase Polyethylene HDPE (PE300) Rods in the exact dimensions you need, without having to buy full, manufactured sheet sizes. We don’t charge for cutting standard shapes and sizes listed on our website.

For more customised projects, we also offer bespoke fabrication services, including:

  • CNC Laser Cutting – For precise and intricate designs.
  • CNC Routing – Ideal for complex shapes and large-scale projects.
  • Engraving – Perfect for personalised or technical detailing.
  • Additional options – Such as drilled holes, rounded corners, and edge polishing for a professional finish.

Sustainability and Recycling

Polyethylene HDPE (PE300) Rods can only be recycled through specialised processes. However, its durability and extended lifespan reduce the need for frequent replacements, making it a more sustainable choice for long-term industrial applications.

Orders that exceed the weight allowance for their band are charged €1 per additional kg.

Delivery times

Delivery takes 5–7 working days.

Customs, import taxes and VAT

Our checkout meets EU customs and import requirements in full, so there are no surprises once your order ships. At checkout, you can choose how import taxes and duties are handled:

Can I collect my order from Simply Plastics?

Yes, of course. Orders can be collected from our premises in Colchester, Essex. At the final stage of the checkout process there is a delivery option labelled "Collection/pickup" which is free. Once your order is complete, you will be notified by email along with our address and collection times.

I need my order urgently, can I pay for faster shipping?

Yes. We offer an express delivery service which aims to deliver all orders in 1-3 working days. Orders are delivered by a recognised courier company and may require a signature on delivery.

Do you have a minimum order charge or small order fee?

This is a question we are asked fairly regularly due to the previlance of either a minimum order charge or small order fee within the industry.

At Simply Plastics our approach has always been to treat all orders equally, small or large. We want all customers, new and existing, to be able to place orders with us confident that they are only paying for the products and materials that they require. We therefore do not have a minimum order charge or small order fee

Is Polyethylene waterproof?

Yes, both PE300 and PE500 are waterproof and have low moisture absorption.

Is Polyethylene easy or difficult to bond?

Polyethylene is difficult to bond because it has a low surface energy. However, it can be bonded with special adhesives and methods

What is the difference between PE300 and PE500?

PE300 and PE500 are different grades of polyethylene, with PE500 being a higher molecular weight version, meaning it offers greater wear resistance and impact strength compared to PE300. PE300 is easier to weld, offers a range of good properties and is a lower cost than PE500.

The transition piece between the motor shaft and liquidizer jug on our food processor had shattered and parts no longer available. This HDP was just the material to fashion a replacement. It worked a treat.
