Polypropylene Homopolymer Rod (PPH) is a lightweight, rigid plastic known for its high chemical resistance, stiffness, and machinability. Ideal for industrial applications, it offers a good melting temperature, high dynamic stability, and is available in natural and beige.

Why use Polypropylene Homopolymer Rod?

PPH Rod offers outstanding durability, impact resistance, and low moisture absorption. Its high tensile strength and excellent resistance to acids, bases, and solvents make it a preferred choice for industrial, chemical, and mechanical applications. It is easily machinable and weldable, ensuring precise fabrication for custom projects.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Excellent Weldability: Easily joined using common plastic welding techniques, ensuring strong, durable joints.
  • Outstanding Chemical Resistance: Resistant to a wide range of acids, alkalis, and solvents, making it ideal for chemical processing environments.
  • Food Compliant: Suitable for use in food-grade applications due to its non-toxic and hygienic properties.
  • High Corrosion Resistance: Maintains performance and integrity even in harsh or corrosive settings.
  • Greater Hardness than PPC: Slightly harder and stiffer than Polypropylene Copolymer, offering improved mechanical performance.
  • Higher Working Temperature: Withstands higher continuous operating temperatures than PPC, increasing its suitability for demanding environments.
  • Very Low Moisture Absorption: Exhibits minimal water uptake, ensuring consistent performance and dimensional stability in humid or wet environments.

Typical Applications

  • Pumps: Used in pump components, where low moisture absorption and chemical resistance are critical to maintaining performance and longevity.
  • Valves: Ideal for valve applications, offering reliable resistance to acids, alkalis, and other harsh substances, ensuring the longevity and performance of industrial valves.
  • Gaskets: Often used to create gaskets for sealing, benefiting from its low moisture absorption and chemical resistance for maintaining tight seals in various industrial environments.

Specific Gravity 0.91

PPH Rod is lightweight, making it easy to handle and ideal for weight-sensitive applications.

Manufacturing Process – Extrusion Process

Polypropylene Homopolymer (PPH) rods are manufactured through an extrusion process, where molten polymer is forced through a round die to form a continuous cylindrical shape. The rod is then cooled and cut to the desired length. This method ensures:

  • Consistent diameter and density
  • Excellent chemical and moisture resistance
  • High strength and rigidity

This process results in a durable, lightweight, and machinable material, making PPH rod ideal for a wide range of industrial applications, including chemical tanks, seals, pump components, and custom-machined parts.

Cut to Size Bespoke Fabrication Services

Our cut to size service allows you to purchase PPH Rod in the exact dimensions you need, without having to buy full, manufactured diameters. We don’t charge for cutting standard shapes and sizes listed on our website.

For more customised projects, we also offer bespoke fabrication services, including:

  • CNC Laser Cutting – For precise and intricate designs.
  • CNC Routing – Ideal for complex shapes and large-scale projects.
  • Engraving – Perfect for personalised or technical detailing.
  • Additional options – Such as drilled holes, rounded corners, and edge polishing for a professional finish.

Sustainability and Recycling

PPH is fully recyclable through specialised processes, contributing to sustainability efforts. Its durability and long lifespan reduce the need for frequent replacements, making it an eco-friendly choice for industrial applications and reducing overall environmental impact.

How delivery is priced

European delivery is priced by the size and weight of your panel, based on the band your order falls into:

Panel size (up to) Weight (up to) Delivery
500mm × 500mm 10kg €15
750mm × 750mm 15kg €20
1000mm × 1000mm 25kg €25

Orders that exceed the weight allowance for their band are charged €1 per additional kg.

Delivery times

Delivery takes 5–7 working days.

Customs, import taxes and VAT

Our checkout meets EU customs and import requirements in full, so there are no surprises once your order ships. At checkout, you can choose how import taxes and duties are handled:

  • Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) — we collect and pay all import taxes and duties on your behalf. Your order arrives at your door with nothing more to pay.
  • Delivered At Place (DAP) — available to businesses with an EORI number. You act as the importer of record and settle any import VAT and duties directly.
Can I collect my order from Simply Plastics?

Yes, of course. Orders can be collected from our premises in Colchester, Essex. At the final stage of the checkout process there is a delivery option labelled "Collection/pickup" which is free. Once your order is complete, you will be notified by email along with our address and collection times.

I need my order urgently, can I pay for faster shipping?

Yes. We offer an express delivery service which aims to deliver all orders in 1-3 working days. Orders are delivered by a recognised courier company and may require a signature on delivery.

Do you have a minimum order charge or small order fee?

This is a question we are asked fairly regularly due to the previlance of either a minimum order charge or small order fee within the industry.

At Simply Plastics our approach has always been to treat all orders equally, small or large. We want all customers, new and existing, to be able to place orders with us confident that they are only paying for the products and materials that they require. We therefore do not have a minimum order charge or small order fee

What is the difference between Polypropylene Copolymer and Polypropylene Homopolymer?

The main difference between Polypropylene Copolymer (PPC) and Polypropylene Homopolymer (PPH) lies in their chemical structure. PPH is made from a single monomer (propylene), resulting in a stiffer, stronger, and more chemically resistant material with a higher melting point. Whereas, PPC is made from 2 or more monomers (propylene and another like ethylene), which leads to increased flexibility, impact resistance, and toughness, but with a lower melting point.

Is Polypropylene waterproof?

Yes, polypropylene is generally considered waterproof. Its tightly packed structure of its molecules causes water to slide off.

Is Polypropylene easy or difficult to bond?

Polypropylene is difficult to bond because it has a low surface energy. However, it can be bonded with special adhesives and methods, such as plastic welding.
