PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol) is a clear plastic sheet offering high impact resistance, excellent optical clarity, and strong chemical resistance. Easy to fabricate, form, and print, PETG is a cost-effective alternative to polycarbonate and acrylic, making it suitable for a wide range of commercial, industrial, and food-safe applications.
Key features
- High impact resistance – tougher than standard acrylic
- Glass-clear transparency and excellent surface gloss
- Food-safe and hygienic
- Highly versatile and easy to work with
- Excellent chemical and weather resistance
- Conforms to BS, EN, NFP, DIN and CSE fire regulations
- Recyclable and environmentally friendly
- Suitable for screen printing and digital printing
Typical Applications
- Food and drink containers and dispensers
- Signage
- Retail point of sale displays
- Protective screens and machine guards
- Security glazing
- Pharmaceutical and cleanroom enclosures
- Glazing and glass replacement
- Packaging and display boxes
- Bus shelters
- Printable plastic sheet for direct-to-substrate printing
- Vending machines and kiosk windows
High impact resistance
PETG is significantly stronger than acrylic, around 5 to 7 times stronger and can withstand as much as 70% of polycarbonate impact.
Good light transmission
Clear PETG typically has a light transmission of around 88-90%, making it comparable to glass.
Food-safe and hygienic
As an FSA-approved food contact material, PETG is a safe and popular choice for use in food and beverage environments, including vending machines, counter displays, and containers. It is also suitable for use in pharmaceutical and healthcare applications where hygiene is key.
Highly versatile and easy to work with
PETG is widely used by fabricators thanks to its low forming temperature and excellent machinability. It can be cut, drilled, routed, and bonded with ease, and is particularly well suited to vacuum forming, line bending, and welding. Cold bending is possible up to 2mm thickness without cracking or whitening.
Perfect for printing and displays
With a high-gloss surface and excellent ink adhesion, PETG sheets are suitable for both screen printing and direct-to-substrate UV digital printing. This makes them ideal for use in signage, promotional stands, and advertising displays.
Chemical and weather resistant
PETG offers excellent resistance to cleaning chemicals and environmental wear, making it suitable for long-term use indoors and in selected outdoor conditions. Fire-rated grades are also available for added safety compliance.
Fire-rated for safety
PETG conforms to multiple international fire safety standards including BS, EN, NFP, DIN, and CSE regulations — making it a reliable choice for public and commercial environments where fire performance matters.
Strong yet lightweight
Despite its light weight, PETG is exceptionally strong and durable, offering robust protection and longevity without adding unnecessary bulk — perfect for applications needing a balance of strength and manoeuvrability.
Recyling
Fully recyclable and energy-efficient to process, PETG is an environmentally conscious choice for sustainable design and manufacturing projects.

How delivery is priced
Delivery is priced by the size and weight of your panel, based on the band your order falls into:
| Panel size (up to) | Weight (up to) | Delivery |
|---|---|---|
| 500mm × 500mm | 10kg | $59 |
| 750mm × 750mm | 15kg | $79 |
| 1000mm × 1000mm | 25kg | $109 |
Orders that exceed the weight allowance for their band are charged $2.50 per additional kg.
Delivery times
Delivery is by air and takes 5–7 working days.
Customs, import taxes and duties
Our checkout meets US and Canadian customs and import requirements in full, so there are no surprises once your order ships. All orders are sent Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) — we collect and pay all import taxes and duties on your behalf, so your order arrives at your door with nothing more to pay.
Can I collect my order from Simply Plastics?
Yes, of course. Orders can be collected from our premises in Colchester, Essex. At the final stage of the checkout process there is a delivery option labelled "Collection/pickup" which is free. Once your order is complete, you will be notified by email along with our address and collection times.
I need my order urgently, can I pay for faster shipping?
Yes. We offer an express delivery service which aims to deliver all orders in 1-3 working days. Orders are delivered by a recognised courier company and may require a signature on delivery.
Do you have a minimum order charge or small order fee?
This is a question we are asked fairly regularly due to the previlance of either a minimum order charge or small order fee within the industry.
At Simply Plastics our approach has always been to treat all orders equally, small or large. We want all customers, new and existing, to be able to place orders with us confident that they are only paying for the products and materials that they require. We therefore do not have a minimum order charge or small order fee.
Is PETG food safe and suitable for hygiene-sensitive applications?
Yes, PETG is food safe and compliant with EU and FDA regulations, making it suitable for direct contact with food and beverages.
Typical hygiene-focused uses include:
- Food display cases and serving stations
- Food packaging and storage containers
- Medical device components
- Pharmaceutical packaging
Its smooth, non-porous surface resists bacteria and is easy to clean with common disinfectants, making it perfect for restaurants, catering, and medical environments. Please read the Manufacturers' Food Contact Statement for more information.
Can PETG be cut, drilled, or machined easily?
Yes, PETG is extremely fabrication-friendly and can be cut, drilled, CNC routed, laser cut, or even engraved and etched with ease. It does not crack or chip like acrylic, making it ideal for precise work.
- Cutting: Can be cut using a table saw, jigsaw, or CNC router for smooth edges.
- Drilling: PETG drills cleanly without splitting when using standard drill bits.
- Laser Cutting: Produces smooth, polished edges that require minimal finishing.
For best results, use sharp tools and avoid excessive heat buildup.
Is PETG suitable for outdoor use?
Standard PETG is best suited to indoor applications, as it can become discoloured or brittle with prolonged UV exposure. However, UV-stabilised PETG grades are available for outdoor projects. These resist yellowing and degradation, making them ideal for external signage, displays, and protective panels.
If you require UV-resistant materials which can be used outdoors for long periods the most suitable material is Perspex® Acrylic Sheet. For a more detailed explanation on the UV-resistance of Perspex® Acrylic Sheets, see our blog post: The Truth About Perspex® UV Resistance – and Why It’s Important.
