LFX Oilon Nylon 6 is a self-lubricating, oil-filled cast nylon for high-load, slow-moving parts. Its low friction and wear resistance reduce maintenance in demanding industrial uses.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Advanced Lubrication: The integrated lubricants within the LFX Oilon sheet provide continuous lubrication throughout the material's lifetime, reducing the need for additional external lubrication.
  • Reduced Coefficient of Friction (up to 50%): The material offers up to 50% lower friction compared to standard cast nylon, making it highly effective in reducing wear on moving parts.
  • High Loads on Slow-Moving Parts: Ideal for slow-moving, high-load applications, providing excellent performance in industrial machinery and conveyor systems.
  • Better Wear Resistance: Superior resistance to abrasion and friction, making it a long-lasting solution for components subjected to regular mechanical stress.
  • Lower Water Absorption: The material absorbs less moisture than standard nylon, ensuring greater dimensional stability in humid or wet environments.

Typical Applications

  • Conveyor Parts: LFX Oilon sheet is ideal for conveyor components due to its low friction and high wear resistance, ensuring smooth and efficient operation.
  • Wear Pads: Used extensively in wear pads, the sheet reduces friction and extends the lifespan of parts exposed to constant contact and abrasion.
  • Chain Guides: LFX Oilon is perfect for chain guides as its self-lubricating properties and durability help reduce wear on chains and enhance operational efficiency.

Colour Application

The distinctive oil-filled green colour indicates its self-lubricating properties, making it easily recognisable for industrial applications requiring reduced friction and enhanced wear resistance.

Specific Gravity 1.135

A specific gravity of 1.135 means the material is heavier than water, increasing weight, energy consumption, and costs in some applications. It also limits buoyancy, making it unsuitable for floating uses.

Not suitable for food applications

This material is not food compliant with EU and FSA regulations.

Manufacturing Process - Casting

LFX Oilon sheets are produced through a casting process, where the material is formed with integrated lubricants for enhanced performance. This method ensures:

  • Consistent lubricant distribution
  • Uniform wear resistance
  • Reduced friction properties

The casting process results in a self-lubricating material with excellent dimensional stability, lower friction, and improved durability, making it ideal for high-load, slow-moving applications like bearings, gears, and wear components.

Cut to Size Bespoke Fabrication Services

Our cut to size service allows you to purchase LFX Oilon sheet panels in the exact dimensions you need, without having to buy full, manufactured sheet sizes. We don’t charge for cutting standard shapes and sizes listed on our website.

For more customised projects, we also offer bespoke fabrication services, including:

  • CNC Laser Cutting – For precise and intricate designs.
  • CNC Routing – Ideal for complex shapes and large-scale projects.
  • Engraving – Perfect for personalised or technical detailing.
  • Additional options – Such as drilled holes, rounded corners, and edge polishing for a professional finish.

Sustainability and Recycling

LFX Oilon sheet can only be recycled through specialised processes. However, its durability and extended lifespan reduce the need for frequent replacements, making it a more sustainable choice for long-term industrial applications.

Where we deliver

We currently deliver to the United States and Canada.

How delivery is priced

Delivery is priced by the size and weight of your panel, based on the band your order falls into:

Panel size (up to) Weight (up to) Delivery
500mm × 500mm 10kg $59
750mm × 750mm 15kg $79
1000mm × 1000mm 25kg $109

Orders that exceed the weight allowance for their band are charged $2.50 per additional kg.

Delivery times

Delivery is by air and takes 5–7 working days.

Customs, import taxes and duties

Our checkout meets US and Canadian customs and import requirements in full, so there are no surprises once your order ships. All orders are sent Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) — we collect and pay all import taxes and duties on your behalf, so your order arrives at your door with nothing more to pay.

Can I collect my order from Simply Plastics?

Yes, of course. Orders can be collected from our premises in Colchester, Essex. At the final stage of the checkout process there is a delivery option labelled "Collection/pickup" which is free. Once your order is complete, you will be notified by email along with our address and collection times.

I need my order urgently, can I pay for faster shipping?

Yes. We offer an express delivery service which aims to deliver all orders in 1-3 working days. Orders are delivered by a recognised courier company and may require a signature on delivery.

Do you have a minimum order charge or small order fee?

This is a question we are asked fairly regularly due to the previlance of either a minimum order charge or small order fee within the industry.

At Simply Plastics our approach has always been to treat all orders equally, small or large. We want all customers, new and existing, to be able to place orders with us confident that they are only paying for the products and materials that they require. We therefore do not have a minimum order charge or small order fee

Is Nylon 6 Cast and Extruded waterproof?

Both forms of Nylon 6 (cast and extruded) are not fully waterproof, they are hygroscopic, meaning they naturally absorb moisture from the environment. Whilst they don't dissolve or degrade in water, the absorbed moisture can affect their performance and dimensions, especially in precision applications. Nylon 6 can absorb 2-3% by weight at typical room humidity or as much as 8-9% by weight at full saturation.

What is the difference between Cast and Extruded Nylon 6?

The main difference lies in how the material is manufactured. Nylon 6 Cast is stronger, tougher and has better wear resistance, whereas Nylon 6 Extruded is softer, easier to machine and more flexible.

Is Nylon 6 easy or difficult to bond?

Nylon 6 is generally difficult to bond and would need special adhesives

Is Nylon a Plastic?

Yes, nylon is a plastic — specifically, it’s a type of synthetic polymer belonging to the polyamide family. It was first developed in the 1930s and is one of the most widely used engineering plastics today.

Why Nylon is considered a Plastic

  • Plastics are materials made of polymers — long chains of repeating molecules.
  • Nylon is a man-made polymer produced through chemical polymerisation, making it a synthetic plastic.
  • It’s classified as a thermoplastic, meaning it:
    • Softens when heated.
    • Hardens again when cooled.
    • Can be melted, extruded, and remoulded into different shapes like rods, sheets, or fibres.

More specific information on Nylon can be found on our blog, see Why Engineers Rely on Nylon 6 for High-Load, High-Wear Applications
